  18. Description of Working Group:
  19. The Token Ring Remote Monitoring MIB Working Group is chartered to
  20. produce a new MIB specification that extends the facilities of the
  21. existing Remote Monitoring (RMON) MIB (RFC 1271) for use in monitoring
  22. IEEE 802.5 Token Ring networks.
  23.  
  24. The Token Ring RMON MIB extensions will be developed in the same
  25. architectural framework as the existing Ethernet-based RMON MIB.  The
  26. original RMON MIB architecture was designed with the intention of
  27. incorporating MIB extensions devoted to monitoring other network media
  28. types.  This Token Ring activity is the first attempt at such
  29. integration.

  31. In creating the Token Ring Extensions the Working Group will, wherever
  32. possible, conform to terminology and concepts defined by relevant IEEE
  33. standards.  It may be that a MIB devoted to monitoring may need to
  34. expand on the IEEE objects and definitions.  Such modifications will
  35. be accompanied by a detailed rationale.

  37. All work produced by the Token Ring Remote Monitoring Working Group
  38. will be consistent with the existing SNMP network management framework
  39. and standards.
